Every year in January people embark on diets and healthy eating regimes in an attempt to lose weight fast because they feel so overweight after the excesses of Christmas.
Have you worked really hard to stick to a diet get in shape this year? If so, don’t throw it all away this festive period. Parties, family gatherings and house guests can all present challenges over Christmas but follow these simple rules and you’ll help limit the damage and be far happier and healthier come the new year!
1) Eat a Protein Based Breakfast
What you eat for breakfast has an effect on the way your body handles food for the rest of the day. Base your breakfast on protein and eat some vegetables or fruit with it (think organic eggs with spinach, kippers, smoked salmon, soya yoghurt with seeds and low GI fruit – maybe the odd cooked breakfast with a healthy venison sausage or some organic bacon, grilled mushrooms and tomatoes). You will be less likely to want to snack on chocolates all day if you’re satisfied by your breakfast!
2) Drink Green Tea throughout day and before parties/meals
There is scientific evidence to suggest that green tea can help weight loss. Studies also show that it can (slightly) lessen the effects of alcohol. Instead of drinking wine while you get ready to go out, have a cuppa instead!
3) Eat before drinking alcohol
Eating just a couple of mouthfuls of food before drinking can slow the absorption of alcohol into the blood stream. This is a simple way to make a big difference to your health and diet.
4) Exercise
After the initial excitement, Christmas can start to feel like it’s going on forever and you may find yourself with spare time… if so, why not get in some exercise. Go on a family bike ride, invest in a Wii fit or play active games – you can make exercise fun!
5) Get outdoors
As tempting as it can be to spend Christmas in doors with a cosy fire and lots of TV, it’s important to get outside and get some fresh air! If you have the opportunity to get outside during daylight hours and for a walk or run, this will help boost your vitamin D levels and release some feel-good endorphins.
6) Fill up on vegetables
… so you go easier on pudding. The fibre in vegetables will also minimise digestive discomfort from rich foods.
7) Don’t forget your FULLfast metabolico
The best way to beat cravings and keep you in control of your weight and health this Christmas is your FULLfast. Chewing FULLfast gum will make you think twice before you take it out to munch on chocolate while Metabolico will help boost your metabolism to help counteract the festive indulgences.
